Charlie Zahm & Tad Marks
Charlie is one of the most popular soloists at Celtic music festivals, Maritime and Early American music events anywhere east of the Mississippi. With a baritone voice some have described as "coming along once in a generation," Charlie has become one of the most successful performers on the Celtic festival circuit, weaving magical moments of Scottish history for the listener and viewer, with passion for the performance and a chosen repertoire pleasing to all members of the family. A master of the guitar as well, Charlie brings an authentic love and respect for the music he sings---and with dashes of humor and a light in his eyes, he will draw you into the stories of his songs!
Keenly aware of his own heritage, which includes healthy doses of Scottish and Irish blood on both sides of his family, Charlie has collected hundreds of popular selections and performs them for thousands of fans up and down the Eastern Seaboard and across America. Today, as one of the most sought-after Celtic singers on the East Coast, Charlie performs regularly everywhere from concerts and festivals to television shows and Scottish-themed Caribbean cruises, where his 6'4" frame and powerful baritone make him one of the most memorable performers around.
Charlie’s recent CD projects are , Out of the Mist, and the latest his (15th) release, Songs for When the Sun Goes Down, is a great collection of American folk songs. These projects again demonstrate that Charlie’s vocal ability is rarely matched inside or outside traditional music, and his mastery of the guitar is the perfect complement to his vocal performance.
Charlie will be joined by fantastic Baltimore fiddler Tad Marks, who has toured extensively across the US and Europe with top-name groups, is considered one of the finest fiddlers on the East Coast. His down-home charm and easy-going style has made him friends across the country. Tad’s music has also been featured on many of Charlie's recent albums and dozens of additional CDs by other artists, TV commercials, and he is currently involved in creating a movie music soundtrack. His most recent solo CD release, The Highlander’s Farewell, has received great praise from traditional Celtic and bluegrass fiddle-music lovers alike!

Jonathan Byrd After visiting an old-time fiddle competition in the mountains of Virginia, Jonathan’s music changed forever. Assimilating the sounds of southern traditional music, Jonathan writes new songs in an ancient style. He’ll be joined on stage by world-music duo Dromedary, often heard on NPR’s “All Things Considered.” This contemporary artist’s story-telling & guitar style is one-of-a-kind.

Elizabeth LaPrelle will be performing old songs and ballads from the mountains. Elizabeth is from Smyth County, Virginia and sings the songs in the Original Mountain-style. She's interested in the feel, the sound, and the ornamentation of these songs. She is one of maybe a handful of young singers able to capture the rhythm, the intensity, the breaks and sighs that make this style of singing authentic. Come join us for an evening of beautiful Old-time music.

The Dreamsicles Cary Cooper & Tom Prasado-Rao — Awesome music and newlyweds, no less!
Two voices and a guitar, intricate harmonies with a little cheerleading thrown in, singing love songs for grown ups.  They've been touring together for two years, and have just finished their second CD.  Both Tom and Cary are Kerrville New Folk Competition Winners - accomplished songwriters in their own right. They draw on their experience in classical violin, musical theater, raising kids, and living in the third world to create songs which navigate the territory between Everything But The Girl and Leonard Cohen, Lucy Kaplansky and Krishna Das.
"A hot new CD from The Dreamsicles! More acoustic than their first release, "Luv Songs For Grown Ups" captures their spirit and style perfectly. A winner!"
Ron Olesko, WFDU Fordham University
Tom Prasada-Rao and Cary Cooper fell in love in the spring of 2002. They started writing songs together almost immediately, songs that describe the roller coaster ride of finding love again later in life. They set out to create something different, not for 13 year olds with allowance money, but for parents with mortgages and divorces. Soon their songs started developing a certain motif; celebrating the experience, the fear, the sexuality, and the longing of those who have actually been around the block. The Dreamsicles second album Luv Songs For Grown Ups picks up where their self-titled debut left off. Like their live shows, it's honest, vulnerable, and sassy. They aren't afraid to laugh at themselves or to wear their hearts on their sleeves, and they open the door for their audiences to do the same. In it's first month on folk radio, "Luv Songs" charted 4th in the Top Album category and The Dreamsicles charted 8th as Top Artists. They've been nominated for three Just Plain Folks awards including Contemporary Album of the Year.

Garnet Rogers (Canadian Folk • Singer-Songwriter, mesmerizing Guitarist)
In a darkened bedroom, lit only be the amber glow from an old floor model radio, two young brothers aged 6 and 12 lay in their beds, listening to the country music broadcasts from the Grand Ol' Opry, and practiced their harmonies. Two years later, the youngest one was playing the definitive 8-year-old's version of "Desolation Row" on his ukulele. He soon abandoned that instrument to teach himself the flute, violin and guitar.  Within ten years, and barely out of high school, Garnet Rogers was on the road as a full- time working musician with his older brother Stan. Together they formed what has come to be accepted as one of the most influential acts in North American folk music.  Since then, Garnet Rogers has established himself as 'One of the major talents of our time". Hailed by the Boston Globe as a "charismatic performer and singer", Garnet is a man with a powerful physical presence - close to six and a half feet tall - with a voice to match. With his "smooth, dark baritone" (Washington Post) his incredible range, and thoughtful, dramatic phrasing, Garnet is widely considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the finest singers anywhere. His music, like the man himself, is literate, passionate, highly sensitive, and deeply purposeful. Cinematic in detail, his songs "give expression to the unspoken vocabulary of the heart" (Kitchener Waterloo Record). An optimist at heart, Garnet sings extraordinary songs about people who are not obvious heroes and of the small victories of the everyday. As memorable as his songs, his over-the-top humor and lightning-quick wit moves his audience from tears to laughter and back again.
"Garnet Rogers is capable of awe-inspiring and unpredictable stuff - and that includes more than just music"
Resolutely independent, Garnet Rogers has turned down offers from major labels to do his music his own way.

Doc Watson (Bluegrass/Folk/Americana)
The Weinberg is honored to be hosting living legend Doc Watson. The recipient of six Grammy Awards, a National Medal of the Arts, a National Heritage Fellowship and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award, Watson is known throughout the world as a master of the flat-picking and fingerstyle guitar. As a solo performer and in collaboration with the best bluegrass and folk musicians around the globe, Doc has released more than 50 albums dating back to the early 1960’s. Officially declared a "national treasure" by President Jimmy Carter, Watson is known for his honor, integrity and grace as much as for his astonishing musical ability. When playing fingerstyle, Doc uses a thumb pick and one fingerpick (on his index finger) to play tunes. This ""two finger"" style is self-taught. Doc typically uses the thumb pick for alternating bass accompaniment and the index finger for picking out notes or rhythmic fills on the treble strings. He commonly dampens the bass strings with his palm when he finger picks, producing a percussive, thumpy bass line. This is very evident on some of his well known fingerstyle recordings such as Deep River Blues, Windy and Warm and Doc's Guitar. As flat picker, Doc is known for his speed, tone and precision. Doc's style reflects the blend of these many musical influences. Throughout his recording career, he has typically released albums that contain an assortment of musical genres, including traditional ballads, fiddle tunes, blues, gospel, country, and even contemporary songs.

Jeff & Vida Band (High Energy Country/Folk) from New Orleans Opening: Russ Rentler

The Jeff and Vida Band is one of New Orleans best known acoustic Roots act. Performing original material spanning from Appalachian Bluegrass to Alternative Country. Their live performances showcase Vida’s powerful voice, Jeff’s superb picking on mandolin, guitar and banjo, Mike Kerwin’s slap-you-in-the-face bass playing and tight well arranged harmonies. With ballads that sound like they could have been written fifty years ago and raucous barnstorming numbers that keep your feet tapping their live shows are exciting and unique, full of humor, good music and unforgettable songs.
After touring nonstop for the past three years the Jeff & Vida Band have started to gain acclaim and attention on the national level. Their latest album, the award winning ‘The Simplest Plans’ (Binky Records 2002) has earned them a large fan base and a reputation for embodying the spirit of ‘Americana’ music. Now, after thousands of miles and hundreds of shows their hard traveling is finally beginning to pay off. They have recently begun to break into the major club and festival circuit both nationally and internationally and their music is being played regularly on Triple-A radio stations across the country.
Jeff Burke and Vida Wakeman began performing in the bars and clubs of New Orleans in 1998. After gaining a local following they recorded their critically acclaimed debut album, ‘One Horse Town’ (Independent /Binky 2000). With the success of the record they hit the road full time to support the release and bring their music to a wider audience. It wasn’t long before Mike Kerwin joined the band on standup bass in 2001. Their different backgrounds and shared love of American roots music helped them create a unique sound that that fuses Blues, Country, Rock & Roll and Bluegrass and can only be described as Americana.
True to the American song writing tradition Jeff and Vida keep their songs simple and sincere. Their material draws from most everything except modern day hits. You can tell after hearing their songs that they probably turned the radio off a long time ago. “While Jeff & Vida extend their grizzled tales of murder (“The Law’s Best Friend”), revengeful spite (“Don’t leave the Lights On”), downtrodden luck (“Have Mercy”) and rollicking rockabilly (“Dollar Stops) to their fullest, they also shade plenty of twisty turns into the arrangements.”
